Senior Drives Engineer

About the role

ABB is hiring a Senior Drives Engineer in Zagreb, Croatia, within its Automation Process Industries division. The role reports to the Engineering Manager and involves collaborating on challenging industrial electrification and automation projects, working on small projects or parts of larger ones while applying basic design thinking and design for excellence concepts. The work model is hybrid.

Key responsibilities

• Execute engineering tasks in electrification and automation projects focused on electrical machinery and power electronics, such as motor and transformer specifications and electrical schematics, mainly in the metals industry
• Work closely with customers to shape and deliver solutions, and initiate improvements based on their feedback
• Create work plans and cost estimates with project managers, ensuring quality, timely delivery within budget
• Commission LV AC and DC drive systems and coordinate with project and quality managers so designs are manufactured, tested, installed and commissioned correctly
• Take project ownership, coach colleagues on engineering solutions and best practices, and share lessons learned

Required profile

• Degree in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics, robotics or a similar field
• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in engineering and commissioning
• Fluent English with good written and spoken communication skills
• Valid category B driving licence
• Experience in the metals industry (rolling mills, processing lines, casting lines) is a plus

• Electrical engineering, electric machinery, AC and/or DC drives
• Electrical design using tools such as EPLAN and AutoCAD
• Power distribution, network types and grounding systems
• Automation systems concepts such as PLC and HMI
