Design Controls Engineer (Junior to Senior)

About the role

We are looking for a Design Controls Engineer to join our team in Zagreb or Rijeka. The role involves designing, developing and delivering Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) and other industrial control solutions for mission‑critical projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead conceptual and detailed design of BMS, EPMS and industrial control systems.
• Create control system documentation such as riser diagrams, network diagrams, I/O lists, functional descriptions and sequences of operation.
• Design control system architectures, communication networks and integration strategies for third‑party equipment.
• Develop and review PLC/DDC software using CODESYS and related technologies.
• Design and support SCADA/HMI applications, preferably with Ignition.
• Configure Ethernet‑based industrial networks and protocols (Modbus, BACnet, OPC UA, MQTT, SNMP).
• Implement redundant SCADA systems and virtualized environments.
• Coordinate controls, fire alarm and security integrators and provide technical guidance to suppliers and subcontractors.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, site deployment, commissioning and quality teams throughout project execution.

Required profile

• University degree in Electrical, Automation, Computer Engineering or IT.
• Fluent English communication, both written and spoken.
• Experience with automation, control systems and system integration in industrial, commercial or mission‑critical environments.
• Strong analytical and programming abilities, attention to detail and ability to work independently while coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

• Control panel design, testing and commissioning.

• Linux environments and virtualization – VMware ESXi, Proxmox, VirtualBox.
• Docker containers and modern software development tools.
