Software Engineer (GenAI, Croatia)

About the role

Datatonic is looking for an experienced Software Engineer in Zagreb to architect the interface between humans and AI. The team builds production-grade GenAI solutions on Google Cloud that turn complex data into actionable insights, taking users from vague business requirements to scalable, secure and intuitive applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy full-stack applications that integrate LLMs and AI into seamless user experiences.
• Create high-level designs and data flow diagrams, choosing the right Google Cloud services for performance and scalability.
• Build production-grade, well-tested software and own the application lifecycle, from CI/CD automation to monitoring and security.
• Act as a technical partner for clients, turning ambiguous needs into technical roadmaps and recommending the best frameworks.
• Work with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, DevOps and Data/Analytics Engineers to connect model outputs with the front end.

Required profile

• 3+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of production-ready code.
• A "T-shaped" engineer able to handle technical debt, mentor peers and explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Frontend: React, Svelte/SvelteKit or Angular, with UI/UX principles.
• Backend: Python (FastAPI/Flask) or Node.js, REST/GraphQL and microservices.
• Database design (SQL and NoSQL) and cloud-native scaling.
• Familiarity with the GCP ecosystem (Cloud Run, GKE, Firebase) and secure coding (OAuth, OIDC, OWASP).
