Senior Accountant (m/f)

About the role

We are looking for a proactive, detail‑oriented Senior Accountant to support the Head of Regional Accounts Payable in Zagreb. The role will manage current AP processes while driving the implementation of a new automated system and will evolve into more complex, value‑added tasks as automation matures.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Head of Regional Accounts Payable in managing AP across relevant regions.
• Oversee end‑to‑end invoice and payment processes, including coding, purchase order matching, approvals, and reconciliations.
• Act as the escalation point for invoice discrepancies, supplier disputes and payment issues.
• Provide day‑to‑day guidance to the AP team, including task allocation and training of new members.
• Ensure strong financial controls and regulatory compliance, covering VAT, WHT and vendor master data.
• Support month‑end and year‑end closing activities, such as AP reconciliations and journal entries.
• Drive process improvements and system initiatives, including automation and workflow enhancements.
• Support internal and external audits and act as backup for the Head of Regional Accounts Payable.

Required profile

• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Solid accounting experience, preferably in a fast‑paced or regional environment.
• Good understanding of AP processes, reconciliations and internal controls.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across Finance, Procurement and Treasury.
• Well‑organized, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Knowledge of VAT, WHT and other relevant tax or compliance requirements is an advantage.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with accounting/ERP systems.
• Familiarity with AP automation tools.
