Head of Controlling

About the role

The Head of Controlling will lead and develop the controlling function for a multinational engineering and industrial manufacturing group. This senior position combines team leadership with cross‑functional business partnering to drive performance monitoring, profitability analysis and strategic decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Controlling function, including team leadership and cross‑functional business partnering.
• Oversee controlling activities across production, inventory, procurement, sales and marketing, ensuring accurate performance monitoring.
• Drive budgeting, forecasting, business planning and management reporting processes, providing actionable insights.
• Monitor financial and operational performance, analyse variances and support executive leadership through business reviews and investment evaluations.
• Lead cost and profitability management, including cost allocation, transfer pricing and responsibility‑center reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement, process optimisation and digitalisation of controlling systems and reporting frameworks.
• Lead project controlling for long‑term contracts, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15 and margin monitoring.
• Lead group consolidation and management reporting, aiming to shorten the group closing cycle.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance or a related field; technical background with strong controlling track record is also welcome.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in financial controlling, FP&A, finance business partnering, project or production controlling within complex, multi‑entity companies.
• Experience managing teams is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of intercompany transactions, responsibility‑center reporting, management reporting and consolidated financial analysis.
• Working knowledge of IFRS, particularly IFRS 15.
• Professional working proficiency in English; German is an advantage.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Excel.
• Experience with ERP systems.
• Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
• Knowledge of IFRS 15 and other IFRS standards.
• Use of financial reporting tools.
