Freelance Lead Auditor – SA8000/SMETA (Croatia)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced freelance Lead Auditor to perform SA8000 and/or SMETA audits for projects in Croatia. The role is project‑based, offering flexible, call‑based collaboration aligned with our audit calendar, and requires onsite visits to client facilities. You will work independently while coordinating closely with our audit planning team and client stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and lead audit teams for SA8000 and SMETA assessments.
• Conduct site inspections and worker interviews to verify compliance with social accountability, labor, health & safety, environmental and ethics standards.
• Prepare detailed audit reports, record non‑conformities and recommend corrective actions.
• Communicate findings to project management, procurement and client stakeholders.
• Maintain complete audit documentation and ensure traceability of all activities.
• Provide technical guidance on best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Evaluate worker conditions, labor rights and ethical business practices across supply chains.

Required profile

• Valid SA8000 Lead Auditor Certification or SMETA Lead Auditor Certification.
• Minimum of 3 + years hands‑on experience in social accountability and ethical audits.
• Proven ability to lead audit teams and produce high‑quality audit documentation.
