Director of AI

About the role

Burai is an AI‑driven productivity platform that embeds intelligent agents into Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace workflows. As Director of AI you will shape the AI vision, lead a world‑class team, and deliver secure, scalable AI solutions on Azure that power the next wave of automation.

Key responsibilities

• Define the AI strategy and roadmap, prioritising initiatives across GenAI, LLMs, RL and NLP.
• Build and lead a high‑performing organisation of AI engineers, data scientists and research scientists.
• Design, deploy and operate production AI models and agents in a multi‑tenant SaaS environment with strong SLAs.
• Architect agentic systems, including prompting strategies, retrieval‑augmented generation and vector‑based memory.
• Own the Azure AI platform, leveraging Azure ML, Cognitive Services, containerisation and CI/CD for security and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and Design to embed AI into customer experiences.
• Champion responsible AI practices, defining KPIs for model quality, latency, safety and business impact.

Required profile

• 8+ years of AI/ML experience with at least 3 years leading high‑impact teams and shipping AI to production.
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong product mindset and ability to translate AI capabilities into business value.
• Hands‑on experience deploying LLMs and agentic workflows in a SaaS, multi‑tenant environment.

Required skills

• Python (FastAPI) and familiarity with Node.js or Go.
• Deep learning frameworks: PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• LangChain and Hugging Face ecosystem.
• Vector databases such as Pinecone, Qdrant, Weaviate, Milvus.
• Azure ML, Azure Cognitive Services, containerisation (Docker), CI/CD pipelines and observability tools.
• Data stores: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Neo4j.
• Model Context Protocol, robust prompting, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation pipelines.
• Integration experience with Google ADK (optional).
