Chief Accountant – Croatia & Slovenia

About the role

The Chief Accountant for Croatia and Slovenia will ensure accurate and compliant accounting, statutory reporting, tax compliance and financial controls for the legal entities in both countries. Reporting to finance leadership, the role leads local accounting and tax activities, month‑end and year‑end closings, audits and serves as the main accounting partner for internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end closing processes, prepare statutory financial statements and balance‑sheet reconciliations in line with IFRS, local GAAP and Group policies.
• Oversee preparation and filing of VAT, corporate income tax, withholding tax, Intrastat and other statutory declarations, and manage tax audits and inquiries in Croatia and Slovenia.
• Coordinate annual statutory audits, support internal audit activities and ensure compliance with internal controls and financial procedures.
• Act as primary contact for external accounting providers, auditors, tax authorities, banks and regulatory bodies, and partner with shared service centres, finance business partners and other functions.
• Drive standardisation, automation and optimisation of accounting processes, contribute to finance transformation projects and SAP S/4HANA enhancements.

Required profile

• More than 10 years of senior accounting experience in an international company, preferably in FMCG, consumer goods, retail, manufacturing or distribution.
• At least 3 years in a Chief Accountant or equivalent role with responsibility for multiple countries.
• Strong knowledge of Croatian statutory accounting and tax legislation; familiarity with Slovenian regulations is a plus.
• Proven ability to coordinate outsourced service providers and manage stakeholder relationships.
• High integrity, attention to detail and a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of IFRS and local GAAP.
• Expertise in Croatian and Slovenian tax regulations.
• Proficiency with SAP S/4HANA.
• Advanced Excel skills.
