Senior Drives Engineer

About the role

At ABB we help industries run leaner and cleaner. As a Senior Drives Engineer you will collaborate on challenging industrial electrification and automation projects, working on both small tasks and larger project portions.

Key responsibilities

• Execute engineering tasks in electrification and automation projects focusing on electrical machinery and power electronics such as specifications and schematics for motors, transformers, and drives.
• Work closely with customers to shape and deliver solutions, incorporating feedback and initiating improvements.
• Create work plans and cost estimates in coordination with project managers, ensuring quality, timely implementation and budget compliance.
• Commission electric motors and LV AC/DC drive systems.
• Coordinate with project, quality and other functions to ensure designs are manufactured, staged, tested, installed and commissioned.
• Take project ownership, proactively find solutions and ensure progress.
• Coach engineering colleagues on solutions, best practices and lessons learned.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, electric machinery, and AC/DC drives engineering and commissioning.
• Degree in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics, robotics or a related field.
• Fluent English with good written and spoken communication skills.
• Valid category B driving licence.
• Experience in the metals industry is a plus.

Required skills

• Electrical machinery and power electronics design.
• AC and DC drives knowledge.
• Design tools such as Eplan and AutoCAD.
• Power distribution, network types and grounding systems.
• Automation system concepts including PLC and HMI.
• Commissioning of electric motors and drive systems.
