Senior Data Scientist – AI & Maritime Analytics

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to lead AI‑driven initiatives at our Maritime Center of Excellence in Rijeka. You will turn complex business and research problems into high‑performing, production‑ready solutions that support our strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze intricate maritime telemetry and research data, designing robust AI models and data‑engineering pipelines.
• Develop, validate, and monitor production‑ready models, including embedding, retrieval, and large‑language‑model techniques.
• Collaborate with software engineering teams to integrate AI solutions into live applications.
• Ensure data quality, consistency, and security across all projects.
• Mentor junior team members, promote best practices, and produce clear technical documentation.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience in data science or advanced analytics.
• Proven track record building production‑grade systems and deploying AI models.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Interest in maritime industry, IoT telemetry, and marine engineering data.

Required skills

• Python programming and object‑oriented design.
• Statistics, machine‑learning algorithms, and data modeling.
• PostgreSQL and vector‑database technologies.
• Data‑pipeline construction, API development, and production deployment.
• Experience with embedding models, retrieval pipelines, and LLM techniques.
