Job description
About the role
Artidis is a clinical-stage health technology company focused on solid tumors, combining a nanotechnology platform for rapid tissue analysis with a data solution to accelerate drug discovery, tissue engineering and personalized treatment. The Experimental Scientist - AFM Tissue Mechanics role designs and runs experiments that support the physical and biological interpretation of signals from Artidis automated atomic force microscopes (AFM), ensuring reproducible measurements linked to properties of cells, tissues and biological materials. The position sits within the Signal Processing team.
Key responsibilities
- Design and run experiments on cells, tissues and other biological or tissue-relevant materials, using Artidis automated AFM devices and complementary laboratory methods.
- Prepare biological samples according to established protocols and develop new preparation methods where needed.
- Generate systematic, reproducible datasets and evaluate how sample preparation, environmental conditions and biological variability affect results.
- Perform complementary measurements and imaging, assess measurement quality and identify sample- or experiment-related artifacts.
- Support the validation of analytical and computational models and help define experiments that distinguish between physical interpretations.
- Maintain records of samples, procedures and conditions, and keep protocols, quality control and documentation up to date.
- Present findings with the Signal Processing team and contribute to improving automated measurement workflows.
Required profile
- Master's degree or PhD in experimental physics, biophysics, biomedical engineering, materials science, mechanobiology, cell biology or a closely related field.
- Practical laboratory experience, preferably with biological samples, soft materials or quantitative measurement methods.
- Ability to formulate hypotheses and turn them into reproducible experiments, with strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Strong written and spoken English; German is a plus.
Nice to have
- Exposure to AFM, force spectroscopy, indentation or other mechanical characterization methods.
- Experience with cells, tissue sections, organoids, hydrogels, cell culture, histology or optical microscopy.
- Basic data analysis or programming in Python, MATLAB or similar.
What we offer
- A competitive salary and a bonus for outstanding performance.
- An agile start-up environment with a highly motivated international team and opportunities for rapid advancement.
