Design Controls Engineer – Industrial Automation

About the role

We are looking for a Design Controls Engineer to lead the conceptual and detailed design of building management, energy, and industrial control systems for a range of projects. The role combines system architecture, software development, and integration of third‑party equipment, working closely with manufacturing, deployment and commissioning teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead conceptual and detailed design of BMS, EPMS and industrial control systems.
• Create control system documentation: riser diagrams, network diagrams, I/O lists, functional descriptions, sequences of operation, material submittals and technical specifications.
• Design control system architectures, industrial communication networks and integration strategies for third‑party equipment.
• Develop and review PLC/DDC software using CODESYS and other modern platforms.
• Design and support SCADA/HMI applications, preferably with Ignition.
• Configure Ethernet‑based industrial networks, switches and protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet, OPC UA, MQTT and SNMP.
• Implement redundant SCADA systems, databases and MQTT brokers in virtualised environments.
• Coordinate and supervise controls, fire‑alarm and security system integrators.
• Provide technical guidance to suppliers, subcontractors, installers and manufacturing teams.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Site Deployment, Commissioning and Quality teams throughout project execution.

Required profile

• University degree in Electrical, Automation, Computer Engineering or IT.
• Fluent English communication, both written and spoken.
• Experience with automation, control systems and system integration in industrial, commercial or mission‑critical environments.
• Strong analytical, programming and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive mindset with curiosity and ownership.
