Senior PHP Backend Developer – Remote (Croatia)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior PHP Backend Developer to join the Messaging domain of Spotler Group, working remotely from Croatia. You will help design, build and optimise high‑performance services that process millions of messages daily across multiple channels.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using PHP (Symfony) and MariaDB.
• Implement and optimise asynchronous processing pipelines with RabbitMQ.
• Collaborate with engineering teams in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK on architectural decisions.
• Contribute to platform modernisation, technical debt reduction and continuous improvement.
• Write unit and end‑to‑end tests to ensure reliability and code quality.

Required profile

• At least 6 years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong expertise in PHP and Symfony or similar frameworks.
• Proven experience building and scaling SaaS backend systems.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, message queues and asynchronous processing.
• Good command of English and ability to work with both modern and legacy codebases.
